Common questions

What if you can't recover my data?

If we can't recover anything, you don't pay for the recovery. The initial assessment is free.

Can you recover from a physically damaged drive?

We handle logical failures (deleted, corrupted, formatted). Physically damaged drives (dropped, flooded, burned) may require a specialist — we'll tell you honestly.

How long does it take?

Depends on the drive size and extent of the issue. We'll give you an estimated timeframe after assessment.

Is my data kept private?

Absolutely. We handle all data with complete confidentiality and delete our working copies after you've confirmed the recovery.

What's the best thing to do if I think I lost data?

Stop using the drive immediately — the more you write to it, the harder recovery becomes. Bring it in as soon as possible.

Free advice — try this first

Before you book, try this

If you've lost important files, the actions you take in the next hour matter a lot. The wrong moves can make recovery impossible.

  1. Stop using the drive immediately — Every write to the drive — even just browsing the web — risks overwriting the data you're trying to recover. If it's your boot drive and the OS is still running, shut down. The longer it stays powered on, the worse the odds.
  2. Check the Recycle Bin and File History first — If you just deleted something normally, it's probably in the Recycle Bin. Windows also keeps Previous Versions if File History is on — right-click the folder → Properties → Previous Versions.
  3. Do NOT install "recovery" software downloaded from the internet — Most of what comes up in Google ads is either a scam or installs to your damaged drive (overwriting the very files you want). If the drive is making unusual noises (clicking, grinding), don't run any software at all — that's physical damage and needs hands-on work.

If that doesn't fix it, that's what we're here for. The $24.99 diagnostic still applies — no fix, no charge.

Data recovery questions

How much does data recovery cost?

It's a flat $50/hr — and you only pay if we actually recover your data. No recovery, no charge. Most logical recoveries (deleted files, corrupted partitions, formatted drives) are a few hours; physically failed drives take longer and we'll tell you the realistic range before we start. No four-figure lab quotes, no surprises.

Can you recover data from a failed or dead hard drive?

Often, yes. Drives that won't mount, click, or show up are recoverable more often than people expect. We assess the drive first and tell you honestly whether your files are reachable — and if we genuinely can't get them, you don't pay for the attempt.

What kinds of drives and devices do you recover?

Hard drives (HDD), SSDs, external drives, USB flash drives, and SD/memory cards — Windows and Mac. Deleted files, formatted drives, corrupted storage, and accidental overwrites. Bring it in and we'll take a look.

Is there data recovery near me in North Georgia?

Yes — we're based in Dawsonville and serve all of North Georgia: Cumming, Gainesville, Canton, Dahlonega, and the surrounding counties. Drop the drive off locally, and for anything urgent, the sooner we see it the better your odds.

My files are irreplaceable — what should I do right now?

Stop using the drive. The more a failing drive is powered on or written to, the harder recovery gets. Don't run random "recovery" software on it either. Power it down and bring it to us — that gives us the best shot at getting everything back.
